Permanent Lips Prior to Treatment Instructions

  • Allergy testing is recommended before the planned procedure if there is any doubt you may be allergic to dye or pigment.
  • Limit the use of aspirin or ibuprofen prior to your scheduled appointment.
  • Avoid drinking alcohol 24 hours before your procedure.
  • Do not take Fish Oil or Vitamin E one week prior to the procedure (they are natural blood thinners).

Permanent Lips Post Procedure Instructions

  • Expect moderate swelling, usually 1-2 days following the procedure. Applying ice for the first 2 hours is most important, & should be continued throughout the day. Gently cleanse your lips with cleanser provided & apply aftercare ointment, Vaseline, or Liprotek 2-3 x’s per day for 3-4 days or until all scabbing/ crusting has come off. After, switch to chapstick or lipstick with an SPF of 15 or greater, as the sun tends to fade lip color quickly. Avoid using straws & smoking 5-10 days & chop food into small bites for the 1st 24-48 hours. Wash lips after eating for the 1st 24-48 hours.
  • After the procedure, the lips will appear to have too much color. After 3-4 days, the epidermis sloughs off. It will appear that you have lost all your color; however when your lips have healed completely, the dermal layer will gradually become darker. Two applications may be required to achieve the desired results. It’s not uncommon to lose up to 50-70% of the color on the first application.

Lips (Day & Effect)

Day 1: Swelling, tender, heavy thick lipstick look with an orange/brick color effect.

Day 2: Slight swelling, intense color.

Day 3: Less swelling, thicker texture, sore, hot feeling before exfoliation with an orange color effect.

Day 4: Exfoliation begins, very chapped lips. Sloughing off/peeling off the dry skin with pigment.

Day 5: Very chapped, almost finished with first chapping stage. Appears like most of color has sloughed off.

Day 6: A soft, color begins to appear.

Day 7-13: Lip color disappears and the “frosty” (2nd chapping stage) begins as a whitish/gray haze on the lips.

Day 14: Color “blooms” from within more and more each day as the new skin heals completely.

Day 21: Healing complete; the color you see is the color you have. Your lips will remain a bit dry for a month or two. Use a good balm and they will return to normal, but with full color.
